Boznańska, Olga (ur. 1865 Cracow, zm. 1940 Paris).
Painter, the most outstanding Polish artist; shaped in the Krakow-Munich environment in 1898 r. she settled permanently in Paris, where she became a leading representative of the Polish art colony. She exhibited for the first time at the TZSP w 1886 r. and since then she has constantly participated in numerous domestic and foreign exhibitions, winning medals and awards. W 1910 r. received the French Legion of Honor, a w 1938 r. order Poland restored; she was a member of many important European art associations. The main domain of Boznańska's work was portrait. In the first period, Munich, most often they were full-figure images, a little cool, monumental, compact in shape, on large-size canvases, sometimes multi-figure scenes in the interior. During the Parisian era, portraits became more intimate, with high mood – as a result of the breakdown in favor of a color patch of different value, losing the contours and blurring the sharpness of plans. Despite the vibrating background, they were portrayed, in a close-up, always looking at the viewer, they attract with facial expressions. The quality range of colors, subordinated to the domination of one tone, is enlivened by small spots of more intense colors; unpainted background cardboard resonates with them as a separate color. In addition to portraits, she also painted tastefully composed, still lifes subtle in colors, which served her as a pretext to struggle with the painting matter. It also left a few cityscapes and early genre compositions.
