Stefan Filipkiewicz (born: 1879 Tarnow, He died: 1944 Mauthausen concentration camp).
Stefan Filipkiewicz studied at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts with J. Mehoffera, L. Wyczółkowski, J. Pankiewicz and J. Stanisławski, who influenced him the most. Already during his studies, he exhibited a lot at the Krakow TPSP, later he participated in many domestic and foreign exhibitions. From r. 1908 he was a member of the Society of Polish Artists “Piece”. From 1930 r. he lectured at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, from 1937 r. he was a professor at this university. In years 1914-1917 served in the Legions, during the Second World War he was active in the underground. He was primarily a landscape painter, considered one of the most outstanding students of Stanisławski and his school of landscape. He most liked to paint Tatra and Podhale landscapes, and in later years also the seaside. He also painted decorative still lifes with bouquets of flowers. He dealt with graphics.
