Gottlieb Leopold

Gottlieb Leopold (ur. 1883 Drohobycz, zm. 1934 Paris).
Leopold Gottlieb ur. 03.06.1883 r. in Drohobczyn, zm. 22.04.1934 r. in Paris. He was the younger brother of Maurice. Studies at the Krakow School of Fine Arts at J. Malczewski (1897-98) and in Munich and Paris (1899-1901). He also stayed in Vienna, where he became a member of a modernist group “Hagenbund”. W 1905 he was a co-founder of the group “Five” in Cracow, operating to 1908 r. (he was its president). He took part in all its domestic and foreign exhibitions (m.in. Vienna, Berlin, Munich , the colony, Dusseldorf). In years 1908-10 he was in Paris. W 19010 he left for Jerusalem, appointed lecturer at the local School of Fine Arts “Bezabet”. From 1914 he fought in the Legions. He then performed over 1000 drawings commemorating war scenes and figures of comrades-in-arms. These sketches and portraits were issued as “Portfolio of the Legions”. W 1920 he settled permanently in Paris. He has been exhibiting since 1903 at TPSP in Kraków and at TZSP in Warsaw; from 1908 he exhibited in the Paris Salons.
