Jahl Władysław (ur. 1886 Jaroslaw, zm. 1953 Paris).
Painter, chart. W 1912 he settled in Paris, where the character of his painting was finally shaped. He also stayed in Spain for some time (w 1926), which had an impact on his work. He took an active part in French artistic life, participating since 1919 in Paris Salons and in many exhibitions of Polish artists operating in France. He was a co-founder of the Paris Group of Polish Artists, created in the fall 1935. He also showed his painting and graphic works in Poland: in Lviv 1932 (exhibition of the New Generation group) i 1937 and twice in the Warsaw IPS in 1936. He was interested in set design. W 1926 he designed decorations and costumes for the Odeon theater in Madrid and for Kamecki's ballets in Lyon. W 1938 at the Orbis showroom in Paris at the design exhibition, drawings, mockups etc., on the staging of the ballet Harnasie K.. Szymanowski, his drawings and graphics are shown. An important theme in Jahl's work is the figure of Don Quixote, the protagonist of many of his paintings and graphics. He also painted compositions, the content of which are episodes and street scenes, urban landscapes with ugly, miserable neighborhoods, sometimes containing deeper and complicated internal content in them. He dealt with portraits and nudes less frequently. His works are dynamic, sometimes baroque pathos of sharply broken lines, two-dimensional diagonals and bold perspective abbreviations, and the suddenness of the transition from highly concentrated light patches to heavy and large lumps of shadow. The rhythmic gradation of tones can be a calming element in his dynamic compositions. The painting element dominates here over the anecdote, the subject is the organic component of the picture.
