Kaniewski Jan Ksawery (ur. 1805 Krasiłów in Podolia, zm. 1867 Warsaw).
Initially, he studied painting and drawing at the Krzemieniec Secondary School with J.. Pitschmanna, w 1827-33 at the St. Petersburg Academy. After numerous travels (Dresden, Vienna, Bologna, Rome) settled in 1846 in Warsaw. He was a professor at the SSP and the organizer of the Drawing Class. He was very popular as a portraitist not only in Poland. He also painted pictures on historical and biblical topics.
