The Renaissance of the 15th and 16th centuries is a period in the history of culture called “revival”. The era between 1350-1510 brought revolutionary changes to painting.

Oil painting was also created in this era by Jan van Eyck, and canvas spread, which inventions allowed to achieve completely new artistic effects. In the greatest Italian cities, artists began to return to the art of antiquity. Portraits, acts and collective scenes were presented in ancient scenography, often painted against the background of landscapes. Special lighting called sfumato was introduced, giving the impression of a slight haze. The use of chiaroscuro became important.
