Paintings of former soldier Huang Yung-Fu turned a former military town into a colorful land called Rainbow Village, which is one of the main attractions of the Thai city Taichung

 

Taichung is a city located in western Taiwan. In its suburbs it is located Rainbow Family Village (Rainbow Military Village). In the 40s and 50s it served as a function military village, where the soldiers lived. An artist turned this military settlement into a beautiful and colorful village straight from a fairy tale. He was now 91 summer from Hong Kong Huang Yong-Fu, called Rainbow Grandpa. Above 60 years ago he came to Taiwan as a soldier to take part in the war.

He is a self-taught artist. Because he doesn't drink or smoke, to have something to do, he devoted his time to creating paintings. And thanks to this, that he did not eat any stimulants, he was in excellent physical condition, to accomplish this considerable work. It took him two years to paint the entire village. He still has paint marks on his hands, which cannot be removed. The frescoes depict animals, heroes and various golden thoughts. They decorate not only the walls of houses, but also window frames, floors, manhole hatches, mailboxes. Everything is full of colors and positive images of various characters.

 

The paintings were discovered by students from a nearby school, they photographed them and posted them on the Internet. Over time, the works of Huang Yong-Fu gained wide recognition, an international group, and the artist earned the friendly nickname Grandpa Rainbow. Thanks to the artist's work, the village was not only saved from demolition, but it has become a unique place, which attracts people from all over the world.
