Lam Władysław

Lam Władysław (ur. 29 August 1893 Konjica (Herzegovina), He died 1 January 1984, Gdansk).
Painter, chart, pedagogue, member of the Świt group, Plasticity, Avant-garde and New Generation and the Association of Polish Graphic Artists. He studied art at the Academy of Fine Arts in Kraków under the supervision of T.. Axentowicz and J.. Mehoffer in the years 1912-18. W 1925 traveled to Paris and the south of France, where a number of his landscape studies were created, architectural views. He paints landscapes, figural compositions, and portraits. His work went through various phases from the reminiscence of Wyspiański's art, by cubizing, forming, moderate expressionism to a kind of naturalism, striving to combine mathematical accuracy with naturalness and freedom. Composition always plays an important role in his works, compactness of the system, simplification of shapes subordinated to decorative rhythms and a clear contour line, covering calm and uniform areas of color. His painting and graphic works have been exhibited many times at domestic and foreign exhibitions, also in the period after the Second World War. He has published a number of books on drawing and painting. He was a lecturer at the Lviv Polytechnic and, after the Second World War, Schools of Fine Arts in Sopot and Gdańsk University of Technology.
