Malczewski Rafał

Malczewski Rafał (ur. 1892 Cracow, zm. 1965 You have).
Painter, writer, member of the Rytm group. W l. 1910-15 studied philosophy in Vienna, architecture and painting. After returning to Poland, he studied for some time at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow, he also used his father's instructions, Jacek Malczewski. W 1917 he settled in Zakopane. Ok. 1922 The artist's individual painting style crystallized, and from 1923 his paintings began to appear at exhibitions. Malczewski mainly painted the landscape, and especially sleepy railway stations, small towns, Tatra Mountains, muddy roads and factory landscapes from Silesia. He presented his own vision of the world close to a dream and fairy tales, albeit based on the observation of objective reality. He constructed the space of his paintings resembling a theatrical scenery with a ramp, backstage and scenes, on which sometimes puppet-like figures of people and animals appeared. He greatly simplified shapes, he was consciously primitizing, which at times brought his style closer to the nature of children's or non-professional creativity. The color of his works is reduced to a few basic colors of similar intensity, and the texture is usually smooth and shiny.
