Merwart Paweł (ur. 1855 Marianówka, zm. 1902 Saint-Pierre in Martinique).
Son of a French and Polish woman. He studied in Vienna, w 1876 in Munich, 1877 in Dusseldorf, 1877-84 at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He painted portraits (m.in. portrait of Helena Modrzejewska in the role of Maria Stuart, 1880), genre scenes, biblical, inspired by musical and literary works. He collaborated as an illustrator with French and Polish magazines, he also created illustrations for books. As an official of the French Ministry of the Navy, he traveled to the French colonies, and he has devoted a lot of work to exotic topics.
