Nicz-Borowiakowa Maria Łucja

Nicz-Borowiakowa Maria Łucja (ur. 1896, zm. 1944 Warsaw).
Painter, member of the Blok group. She studied art at the SSP in Warsaw under the supervision of S.. Lentz in the years 1916-20. Her colleagues in the studio were, among others. H. Stażewski, M. Szczuka, S. Zalewski and T.. Żarnowerówna. At the turn 1922 i 1923 she stayed in Paris for a year, where she encountered cubism and the work of artists of the younger generation. The first works of Nicz-Borowiakowa were still influenced by the Young Poland style. After 1918 the interests of the artist, fascinated by the slogans proclaimed by Poznań painters under the banner of Bunt and Zdrój, have changed. Lata 1920-24 were a period of searching and developing one's own means of expression within the framework of avant-garde art. Her painting works from that time (repeatedly reproduced in the journal “Block”) characterized by the pursuit of pure form construction, based on a strict discipline of law and order. By eliminating the object, Nicz-Borowiakowa presented only the relations between the individual shapes. She treated the portrait differently, you can see the influence of the Vilnius community here, and especially the portrait art of L.. Ślendziński. About 1930 the artist's last works were created. A difficult family situation and illness made it impossible for her to continue her creativity. Several unfinished paintings created after that date testify, that she could not accept it.
