Nasreddin Hocy's fairy tales
Nasreddin Hoca is that for Turks, who is Julian Tuwim for us, that's just that, that he lived a long time ago, in the thirteenth century. He was a comprehensively educated dervish. He is considered a folk philosopher in Turkey, and his humorous anecdotes and stories are known to almost every Turk and not only. Even in neighboring countries, like for example. in Azerbaijan, many of his stories are known. The image of Hocy is a cheerful old man in a turban riding a donkey, often facing backwards, because he mocked everything and everyone, not caring about any prohibitions or high society ethics. He drew the themes of his fairy tales from everyday life, and they were often remarkably simple and logical, which made them clear and understandable to everyone:
One time a neighbor came to Hocy and asked:
– Do you have maybe 40 years old vinegar?
– Yes, mam – Hoca replied.
– Give me please, because I need it to make a medicine – the man said.
– I can not do that. If I gave vinegar to someone, who asked for it, I'd have it all the way through 40 lat?
Hocy's cleverness and sharpness can be seen in this story:
A farmer brought Hocy as a rabbit gift, and the man welcomed him and fed him. The following week the villager reappeared and said:
– Recently, I brought you a hare
Hoca welcomed him again and added, that she offers him soup made of this hare. The following week some other villagers came to Hocy to speak:
– We are man's neighbors, which two weeks ago brought you a hare, we came to you in the name of Allah.
At this, Nasreddin placed plates of clean water in front of them, and the villagers asked:
– What is this strange hare soup?
– This is the soup of the soup, made of hare soup brought by your neighbor – Hoca replied.
